The School of Music is one of five schools that comprise the College of Fine Arts. Teaching and rehearsal spaces are in the College of Fine Arts building, Margaret Morrison Carnegie Hall, and the Hall of the Arts. Two performance halls, Kresge Theatre and Alumni Concert Hall are located in the College of Fine Arts building. In addition, The Purnell Center for the Arts' Philip Chosky Theatre is routinely used for opera productions as well as two off-campus performance venues - Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland and the Mellon Institute Auditorium.

The School of Music is searching for a Director of Operations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with building maintenance experience who thrives in an academic work environment!
Core responsibilities will include:
Management and Supervision: Working with the Head of School, faculty and staff to establish and monitor policies and procedures for use of Kresge Recital Hall and Alumni Concert Hall consistent with the programmatic priorities of the School. Supervise graduate assistants and student employees acting as ensemble setup crew and office assistants, and work closely with recording engineers and piano technicians, all to ensure efficient and seamless School operations and performances. Maintain, update and interpret policies and procedures related to facilities and performance programs for the School of Music, ensuring consistent and smooth operations
Facilities and Security: Oversee the scheduling of all School of Music facilities, working closely with the Director of Student Services to resolve scheduling conflicts. Oversee all School of Music facilities to ensure proper and safe upkeep, facilities inventories and overall well-maintained appearance. Oversee Kresge Theatre maintenance, including lighting and acoustical shell installation/removal. Oversee facilities maintenance and other external services for the School of Music performance programs and special events. Oversee security systems for the School of Music, including all key distribution and retrieval, locker assignments and security systems. Manage the use and maintenance of the School of Music cargo van.
Performance and Special Events Management: Plan and manage the Kresge Recital Hall, Alumni Concert Hall, and Mellon Institute Auditorium calendars, coordinating the schedule and calendar development with appropriate School of Music personnel. Plan and manage the School of Music performance calendar, including concerts, faculty recitals, chamber music events, convocations, auditions, rehearsals, recordings, master classes, School of Music special events, including the Philharmonic Solo Competition and Chamber Music competition, as well as collaborative University, College of Fine Arts and community events. Negotiate fees and book internal and external rentals and services for all School performances and special events. Rent or purchase music and secure performance rights as needed. Work with the School of Music communications office in marketing and promoting events and building new audiences through outreach initiatives involving faculty, students, ensembles, community musical organizations and K-12 programs. Work with technical staff on performance logistics, calendar, contracts and special services. Develop and improve systems and services in the School of Music in consultation with the Head of School, staff, faculty and students.
Projects and Renovations - Manages capital projects and space improvements while keeping projects on track and on budget. Acts as a department liaison to FMS and outside vendors throughout design and construction phases to provide information, to ensure that the project meets the department needs, and that all construction is completed on time and on budget.
Purchasing Budgeting and Property Accounting - Fulfills requests for furniture and equipment with outside vendors. Manages equipment inventory. Responsible for budgeting and tracking costs associated with general repair and improvements, maintenance, furniture and equipment purchases and capital projects.
Office Moves - Handles all office moves. Coordinates with Computing Services for the movement and safe installation of computer and security equipment.
General and Facilities Management - Manages day-to-day facility operations, assuring that equipment, utilities and furniture are available and in good working order. Performs inspections to identify maintenance/repair issues. Ensures that outside vendors performing cleaning, repair and other services have delivered required services with quality results. Serves as building manager and liaison to Facilities Management Services (FMS). Coordinates for procurement and maintenance of telecommunications equipment and services with Central IT. Performs Space Audit Analysis. Interacts with Faculty and Staff customers to assure that their facility needs have been met. Ensures that public areas are aesthetically pleasing, clean and orderly.
