The University of Virginia's Department of Music seeks applications for a Lecturer of Music with a specialization in Horn. The appointment begins on August 25, 2022. This is a three-year, half-time (0.5 FTE) tenure-ineligible appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon available funding, satisfactory performance, and need for the position. Lecturers on the general faculty, after serving for six years, become eligible for promotion to the ranks of senior lecturer and then distinguished lecturer in the years that follow. Duties include performing as the Principal Horn in the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia (UVA's combined student/faculty orchestra, performing a full season of concerts and educational events, https://cvillesymphony.org/), coaching orchestra Horn sectionals, participating in faculty chamber music, coaching a chamber music ensemble, and additional teaching and performance duties. The Lecturer in Horn will also develop a studio of primarily undergraduate students (approximately 10). These private lessons are compensated beyond the half-time salary. Many other performance opportunities are also available to Performance Faculty.
