Bagpiping has been an integral part of the campus life at Carnegie Mellon University since 1939. The Kiltie Band was started by Lewis W. Davidson and each year students who were interested in learning to play the bagpipes could enroll. Director Andrew Carlisle leads the Carnegie Mellon Pipes and Drums, which is made up entirely of current university students and alumni. Carlisle is also the professor in charge of the bagpipe major in the School of Music.

Carnegie Mellon University is searching for a Mid-Section Instructor for the Pipes and Drums Band. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing essential support by supporting the Director of Piping. This is a 10-month (August-May), part-time, non-benefits eligible position working 2.5 hours per week.

Core responsibilities will include:
Tenor drum and bass drum instrumental instruction to team members of the pipe band
Maintenance and tuning of the bass and tenor drums
Recruiting members
Performing with and supporting the band at performances
Ensuring the mid-section is full prepared for performances and competitions
Other duties as assigned
