The Kentucky District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, sponsored by OperaLex, will be held on November 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. EST at the Singletary Center for the Arts in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Kentucky District of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, formerly known as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, is happy to announce our November 4, 2023 competition date. Sponsored by OperaLex, the Kentucky District plans to award up to $5000 in prize money this year.
Judges for the 2023 Kentucky District are:
Christopher Cano - Director of the Cafritz Young Artists Program and American Opera Initiative at Washington National Opera
Joshua Major - New England Conservatory of Music, Chair of Opera
Patricia Racette - Soprano and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis Artistic Director of Young Artist Programs
Schedule of events: (times are approximate and subject to change)
9:00 a.m. - SCFA will open for registration of singers. Singers should plan to arrive and check-in at least 45 minutes before their assigned audition time.
10:00 a.m. - Competition begins
12:00 p.m. - Lunch break
12:30 p.m. - Competition resumes
2:15 p.m. - Competition ends, judges deliberate
2:45 p.m. - Awards announced
3:15 p.m. - Feedback with judges, in order of singers' performance
