Singers progressing from the Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco District Competitions of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition will compete in the Western Region Final. The winner/s of the Final will progress to the National Semi-Finals which will be held in New York in March on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera.
The Met’s Laffont Competition—previously known as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions—is designed to discover promising young opera singers and assist in the development of their careers and is sponsored by hundreds of donors and volunteers from across North and South America. Some of today’s greatest singers got their starts in the competition, including Jamie Barton, Stephanie Blythe, Lawrence Brownlee, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Emily D’Angelo, Michael Fabiano, Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Ryan Speedo Green, Lisette Oropesa, Eric Owens, and Nadine Sierra.

The Western Region Final of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition 2026/27 season will take place in Zipper Hall at The Colburn School in Los Angeles on SUNDAY MORNING FEBRUARY 14th 2027. The start time and other details will be announced closer to the date.
ALL attendees (including Singers, Judges, Western Region Volunteers and also Audience Members) are required to comply with whatever policies and guidelines have been received from the Colburn School. ALSO Competing Singers, Judges and Western Region Volunteers are required to comply with whatever policies and guidelines have been received from the Executive Director or others in the National Office of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.
