Arizona District

The Met’s Laffont Competition—previously known as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions—is designed to discover promising young opera singers and assist in the development of their careers and is sponsored by hundreds of donors and volunteers from across North and South America. Some of today’s greatest singers got their starts in the competition, including Jamie Barton, Stephanie Blythe, Lawrence Brownlee, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Emily D’Angelo, Michael Fabiano, Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Ryan Speedo Green, Lisette Oropesa, Eric Owens, and Nadine Sierra.

Welcome to the Arizona District for the Metropolitan Opera's Laffont Competition. This year's auditions will be held on Saturday December 13th, 2025 at the Arizona State University's Katzin Concert Hall, 50 E Gammage Parkway, Tempe, AZ.

• Auditions will start at approximately 10:30 a.m. and registration will be available starting at 9:30 a.m.
• Singers should arrive 45-60 minutes prior to their audition time, and times are subject to change due to cancellations
• There will be warm up rooms available.
• Singers should bring their own music. If you wish to coordinate with the provided pianist ahead of time, please let the District Director know
• Feedback will be given after the competition results have been announced.

This year's Arizona District competition is open to the public, free general admission. Our judges will be Allen Perriello, Daniel Belcher and TBD. Our pianist is Michele Scanlon.
