The Met’s Laffont Competition—previously known as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions—is designed to discover promising young opera singers and assist in the development of their careers and is sponsored by hundreds of donors and volunteers from across North and South America. Some of today’s greatest singers got their starts in the competition, including Jamie Barton, Stephanie Blythe, Lawrence Brownlee, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Emily D’Angelo, Michael Fabiano, Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Ryan Speedo Green, Lisette Oropesa, Eric Owens, and Nadine Sierra.
The Central Region Competition of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition is coming to the stage, bringing together some of the the region's most promising young opera singers for an afternoon of extraordinary music, artistry, and competition.
Members of the public are invited to attend this exciting event and hear talented emerging artists perform before a distinguished panel of judges. For the singers, the competition represents an important step toward the next level of their professional careers—and for audiences, it is a rare opportunity to experience tomorrow’s opera stars at the beginning of their journeys.
