Casting "Black Chicken," a Winston-Salem filmed play reading. Production states: "My name is Travis Byram, and I am a writer and performer in the Triad area. I'm seeking someone to play a paid role for the filmed reading of my debut comedy I will be directing, 'Black Chicken,' in Winston-Salem, NC. Here is a synopsis of the plot: 'Eighth-grader Randi Colby has a huge secret she's keeping from her ultra-religious family: but it's not that she's a lesbian. Randi is a closeted atheist, so when her parents all but force her to attend a strictly Christian high school, she decides to play gay in order for them to change their minds. Over the course of the next day, Randi struggles to remind herself who she is, impacting not only her but her church, her new "girlfriend," and her folks. Written in a fast-paced, wall-breaking style, this coming-out-of-the closet age comedy features a wild ensemble of characters questioning their identities, including a scheming old couple, a Francophobic pastor, and a Jesus Freak-y deaky sister.' Lines need not be memorized since you will be reading from the script off a music stand, but familiarity with the piece and meeting with myself via Zoom is strongly encouraged. I'm looking for an actor I can collaborate with in prep work who finds joy not only in the acting but in the lead-up to it."
Mrs. Colby, Colin Stiles, Teeny: Supporting, Female, 30-50
this actor plays Mrs. Colby (primarily): the exhausted, on-the-edge-divorce-or-something-worse matriarch of the Colby family; Colin Stiles: a mega-preacher (think Joel Olsteen) comes to evaluate Joseph Colby on his ability to lead a church. He's a little clueless; Teeny: is an elderly woman who has been the pillar of the church, but has now decided she's had enough.
