Shop Sales Specialist

Gagosian Shop seeks a polished, energetic full-time Shop Sales Specialist to join its Upper East Side team. The Gagosian Shop is an extension of the gallery, offering clients exclusive objects, publications, rare books, fashion and art editions. The ideal candidate will have a roster of contacts, actively pursue sales and thrive in a fast-paced, high-end and dynamic art/retail environment. The position requires an outgoing individual who is self-motivated, a fast learner, with excellent communication skills, and loves to engage with the public, clients and VIPs alike. As part of the Shop team, the Shop Sales Specialist must have a collaborative spirit and willingness to jump in where needed to support the day-to-day operations.

This sales position offers an opportunity to
– Develop client relationships with collectors, VIPs, artists and gallery staff
– Sell products related to brand partnerships
– Sell art editions and books published by Gagosian and its represented artists
– Sell a curated selection of rare art books in collaboration with a rare book specialist

Duties include but are not limited to
– Become a key component in generating new streams of revenue for the Gagosian shop by meeting monthly sales and targets
– Holds “book of business” and client relationships
– Opening and closing the shop and register
– Handling all aspects of transactions and invoicing for sales made
– Familiarity with POS (point of sale) systems and the ability to learn new technologies
– Supporting the Shop Manager with creative merchandising strategies including events, merchandising and changeovers and art book fairs
–Working collaboratively with the Shop Manager on promotions and campaigns to boost visibility, and promote key items including exclusive brand partnership launches, as well as supporting the Shop manager in the rollout of efficiency tools as needed
– Greeting customers, staff and VIPS when they walk through the door with a cheerful, professional and enthusiastic attitude. Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
– Building a client base and rapport with repeat clients through conversation and outreach while developing new business and expanding client base through networking, suggestive selling and on-the-floor presence and customer engagement
– Having full knowledge of ongoing and upcoming Gagosian exhibitions worldwide and familiarity with gallery while using extensive product knowledge to act as an expert for the customer
– Consistently meet sales and Key Performance metrics as established by Store Management
– Work as a team player and partner with fellow colleagues, foster open and constructive communication to contribute to a positive working environment

Qualifications
– A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
– A minimum of 1 year of retail experience in luxury goods required with exceptional interpersonal and selling skills; a background in the arts is preferred
– Must be highly organized, proactive and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
– Must be comfortable working with the public, handling PPE and enforcing gallery and NYS health protocols
– Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as determined by business volume; some late nights for special events, VIP visits and openings will be necessary
– Must be flexible to work a holiday schedule

Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience, comprehensive benefits and paid time off package. A change to a commission based structure will be implemented in the coming months for sales staff personnel.
